Graphic Design and Development
The Principles of Design include Unity and Variety; Balance, Emphasis,
Subordination, and Contrast; Scale and Proportion; Rhythm; Figure and
Ground; Hierarchy; Metaphor; and Perception and Aesthics.
The natural world is often the source of my inspiration. Landscapes of
all seasons, sunrises and sunsets, oceans and deep space are limitless
and ever-changing yet consistent and comforting. (Please note that any
unoriginal images were properly cited within the class environment,
and references can be provided upon request.)
Bakery
Advanced Design & Rapid Visualization final project. The required
text and the raw images were provded. The process for this project
was to be able to include all of the pertinent information while
making the image lively, appealing, and balanced.
I applied the gestalt process to create an effective and pleasing
result for a client. The design elements represented here are
Similarity, Continuation, Proximity, Figure & Ground, and the Rule
of Thirds.
Craft of Infographics
This image is a snapshot from my original eBook entitled The Craft of
Infographics. I created all of the graphics in this image using Adobe Illustrator.
Gestalt references the design coming together to communicate, rather
than focusing on each individual element. The word 'Gestalt' means
“a unified or meaningful whole”. (Boeree, 2000). The terms
associated with Gestalt - Similarity, Continuation, Closure,
Proximity, and Figure and Ground - efficiently summarize the
appropriate principles to keep in mind when creating a design.
Florida Postcard
Digital Imaging Fundamentals postcard project. All of the images
were taken by me and assembled into the composite image. Photography
is one of my skill-sets so the intention for this artifact is more
than the design - it includes how I obtained the images. The ability
to capture moments in action that each tell their own story is part
of my motivation.
The top left and bottom right images were shot in 2015 at Sea World,
Orlando, Florida. The bottom left image was shot at the entrance to
Kennedy Space Center located in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The top right
image was taken when standing in shallow surf at New Smyrna Beach.
Louisiana Crab
Sassy Crab, an original image from my Critter Series album, shot
with my Nikon J1 in the bayous of Louisiana, April 2014.
The inspiration for this image was balance with asymmetry and angles
in combination with a very sassy crab. The crab, not being the most
cooperative subject, was captured in a moment of grace.
Louisiana has a great cultural culinary tradition, much of which is
centered on crustaceans such as crabs and the ubiquitous crawfish.
Other staples include peppers, onions, celery, potatoes, sausages
known as Andouille and Tasso, and Boudin.
Morning Rose
Sun Kissed Morning Rose from my Flora Series album. I shot this
beautiful rose in northern Florida on an early morning summer walk
in 2015. The camera was a Nikon J1. No filters were applied.
The delicacy of the petals with the touch of sunlight refracting off
of the early morning dew always inspires a sense of peace. Beauty
and nature are all around us, and a single moment of tranquility can
bring much to the world.
Photography, at its most basic foundation, is all about light. And
what is light but radiant energy? It's an interesting notion to
consider that everything the light touches has the ability to
delight in that energy.
