The 'Wolfdog' is a very special animal, and very close in temeperment to Siberian Huskies. Due to this, it takes people with specialized understanding and experience to have these animals as pets, or in rescues. A Wolfdog would not do well with people who are used to Labradors or Pugs, for example. Wolfdogs would not survive in a wolf sanctuary because they are not true wolves.

Wolfdogs have many things in common with Siberians, especially including a high prey drive and a propensity to run as far and as fast as they can, should they get loose. The average person may conclude that a Wolfdog, or even a Siberian Husky, should be considered vicious should they kill a small dog or a cat. This person would be wrong. These animals respect and are loyal to humans, and who - or what - they consider to be part of their pack. These animals would protect cats and small dogs if they are raised together. However, a strange cat passing through the territory of the Wolfdog or Husky would be considered prey. This is simply the dog's instinct, and precautions can be taken as long as the handlers are aware.

Wolfdogs are beautiful, intelligent, and amazing creatures, and definitley not for the faint of heart. These dogs need to know who the alpha is and they will be happy and secure.
